Black and African American Connections to Parkinson's Disease (BLAAC PD) is a U.S. based research study. It is part of the Global Parkinson's Genetics Program (GP2). The study aims to learn more about gene changes that may cause Parkinson’s in Black and African American people.

New Parkinson's Genetic Risk Factor Discovered in African Populations
GP2 researchers discovered a specific gene change in some people with Parkinson's. This change in the GBA1 gene was found in people of African descent.
This finding could help steer new treatments. And it contributes to the field's expanding knowledge of Parkinson's genetics. BLAAC PD volunteers who shared genetic information helped make this discovery possible. Now the study needs more volunteers to accelerate more breakthroughs.
